Banh - Mi!

More than five years ago whilst I was researching a post entitled ' World's Favourite Street Foods' I came across a few popular menu items, that I had not yet tried!

Being someone who enjoys travelling and always liking to try new exotic flavours and recipes. We learned like many tourists, that some of the best food flavours can be found in the street food kitchens and markets.

Some of our and my own personal favourites are not necessarily made best in the most esteemed restaurants. Especially those barbecue food favourites that featured in this blog post such as Caribbean jerk chicken, Indonesian sate and the infamous 'hot dogs' that can be found in a multiplicity of varieties across the globe.

One of those menu items that I found most mentioned that I had not yet tried is the Vietnamese 'Banh - Mi' which looked like something worthwhile sampling.

Recently I tried my first Banhmi, which is basically a baguette stuffed with Vietnamese seasoned protein with pickled vegetables, coriander and red chili.

Interestingly 'Banhmi' is pronounced similar to a Jamaican street food favourite named 'Bammy' which is a completely different food item. A Cassava cake that is either fried or steamed and served with Fried or Steamed fish usually, but can also be a starch accompaniment to breakfast and other meals.

So this Vietnamese 'Banhmi' is actually one of The BEST, most exquisitely flavoured sandwiches that I have ever tasted. The combination of spices with fresh coriander and pickled vegetables is very delicious!
