Ol Time Sinting! (Chapter 2)

Gizzarda!

Its been a little while since we have been able to post on The Fritter Queen Blog.. and feature something on "Ol time Sinting". These themed posts are to highlight and publicize, and also provide a sample of what to expect from the project. Which is a cookbook that will highlight traditional recipes, ol' time specialties, accompanied by folk tales and stories from the elders.

As promised I start this feature, as the book is intended to start; with traditional Jamaican sweets and Pastries.

I had the pleasure of tasting one of the most crispy, light, sweet and sublime Gizarda's that I ever sampled recently. There are many variations of Gizarda hand-made and sold by street vendors, in backeries across the island and even manufactured and distributed en mass such as these. However there are few that manage to maintain this level of authenticity, moisture and quality of taste.

They are currently distributed all around Kingston mainly, and are sold for only $50 for 1/2, which is a real bargain! Vendors can be found daily, Downtown Kingston, on King Street, opposite the Courthouse in front of Khemlani Mart
